The Classic was a Roblox event by ROBLOX and numerous developers across the platform. Players ventured throughout 15 different Roblox games to find Tokens and Tix that were able to be used in the hub for the event. The event lasted for around 5 days, with there being a total of 225 badges to obtained, with each game having 15 badges related to the event.

Out of every non-sponsored Roblox event that I've ever played, this was my least favorite one so far. I already hated The Hunt, and I hated The Classic even more. Even though Roblox said that they used The Hunt to take in criticism for future events, they ended up with an event even worse than it (at least in my eyes). During the end of my time with the event, I lost motivation to complete the event because I simply didn't want to continue playing it. If you're wondering why I hated this event even more than The Hunt, then feel free to join me down below and see me discuss what happened during the event and what else I have to say about it as well!

Impact

The event was supposed to be a throwback to old Roblox and also acted as a sequel to The Hunt. When more leaks of the event came out however, the community quickly bashed the event due to there being no sight of any games that were actually classic, as all of the games included were modern. This issue was bashed even more when the event made its full release, as every game was from modern Roblox. Many players were disappointed with the outcome of the event, especially with how important Roblox made it seem. When the 1x1x1x1 boss fight released in the game's hub, people were severely disappointed with it, especially with his build-up from past events. Due to the weak performance of the event, people have said that The Classic was around the same quality as The Hunt.

I personally believe that Roblox failed to achieve their goal of this event being a throwback to classic Roblox, and I also dislike how the games included in the event were all modern instead of being from Roblox's classic years.

What Happened?

In the days and weeks leading up to the release of the event, there were numerous teasers and leaks of the event itself. When the event made its full release, players were shocked to see a surprisingly immersive hub world for the event, with there being numerous callbacks to old Roblox such as the use of old cart rides and brickbattling tools. The hub also had numerous missions that gave the player Tokens and in-game Tix, which were the main collectibles of the event. The Tokens were deemed as mandatory for progression in the event and were able to get the player avatar items on Roblox in general (though I thought these items were bland), while the Tix were deemed as optional and were able to get the player in-game items that were able to be used specifically in the event's hub. Similarly to what had happened in The Hunt, there were also items that temporarily went on sale in the hub that were able to be bought with Robux, though I'd prefer it if the items were able to be obtained through other means such as doing a specific mission in the hub or getting enough Tokens to unlock them, along with them not being limiteds at all considering how they're event items. There was also a leaderboard in the hub like in The Hunt, though like The Hunt, I thought it was stupid to have.

The hub was easily my favorite part of the event, as I found the missions to be enjoyable and entertaining, though I wasn't fond of certain missions such as the mirror secret. The hub had a lot of interactable stuff, and exploring it and finding its secrets was entertaining. However, like The Hunt, the event was a Dev Hunt, though this time with a much smaller amount of games, but with over twice the amount of missions to complete, along a far shorter time limit to complete the event (around 6 days), especially in comparison to The Hunt's time limit of around 16 days. There was a total of 15 games in the event, with each game having 15 missions to complete. 5 of these missions would reward the player with Tokens, while the other 10 missions would reward the player with Tix. Because of how each game had a large amount of missions to complete, most developers resorted to making the Tokens being obtained in either the same or similar methods, while the Tix were scattered across the game's maps. While a large amount of the games handled the Tix fine enough, some of them were hidden in crappy spots, and some games made the Tix mandatory to get some of the Tokens, which defeated the purpose of the Tix being an optional collectible for the event. As for the Tokens, I hated getting them in most of the games, as these tasks were often made long and repetitive.

As for the time limit of the event and the higher amount of missions though, they both played a major factor in making me decide that The Classic was worse than The Hunt, and in my eyes, both of those flaws made the smaller amount of games seem nearly pointless (combined with the fact that most of the missions themselves were often long). My first reason for why I think this is the case is because of how in The Hunt, each of the 100 games contained only 1 mission (meaning the event had 100 missions total), while in The Classic, each of the 15 games contained 15 missions (meaning the event had 225 missions total), meaning that the player needed to play less games at the cost of having to do way more missions. My second reason would be that in The Hunt, I often found most of the games to be quick to finish, meaning that I was able to take care of a large amount of missions within a few days. However, for The Classic, due to how the missions were more poorly designed (and how these missions often had the same or similar objectives, as stated earlier), I found myself getting stuck in a game for a decent amount of time, something that was less common for me in The Hunt. The smaller amount of time to complete the event also did nothing but make my problems with the missions even worse, and I felt pressured to complete everything in time. Finals and graduation occurring during the event also made this even worse.

With my thoughts on the event at this point out of the way now, we head onto the boss fight against 1x1x1x1 at the end of the event. In the hub for the event, there were numerous numbers with a specific color that were hidden in specific locations. After the yellow teapot in the center of the map was opened up at the end of the event, a large underground room was revealed. This room had a code door that needed to be opened with the colored numbers hidden across the hub. Upon the code door being opened, 1x1x1x1 was revealed, and the player had to pick up a sword to fight him. Despite the build-up to 1x1x1x1 that had lasted for years, the boss fight itself was extremely lacking and just had 1x1x1x1 trying to kill the player by chasing them as if 1x1x1x1 was a zombie, while the player had to repeatedly slice 1x1x1x1 to death. Upon 1x1x1x1's defeat, the credits for the event rolled. I, like many other players, was very disappointed with the boss fight and had almost nothing to say about it due to how bland it was. What made it even worse was the long build-up to his reveal and the lack of an award for defeating him.

Reactions

People were looking forward to the event, especially with how Roblox "took in" the criticism that they had gotten for The Hunt. When they saw some of the leaks and teasers of the event as well, they were even more excited with things such as the hub. However, when the name of the event was revealed, many people including myself thought that it was ugly and weird. Another thing that users weren't amused by was the event being another Dev Hunt (though users were also happy that the amount of games was reduced to 15), along with the poor selection of games, as they were all modern despite the theme of the event. They also weren't happy about the larger amount of missions to complete and the shorter time limit. Speaking of time, they also weren't happy with when the event was taking place, as it took place when school finals and graduations were occurring for a large amount of users.

When the event went live, people were mainly amused by the hub and were disappointed with the other games included in the event. Players complained about the games being poorly designed and suffering from the same issues that the games involved in The Hunt had suffered from. People were even less satisfied with the event when the 1x1x1x1 boss fight became accessible, as people panned it for being very bland and an extreme letdown, combined with the lack of an award for defeating him. Speaking of awards, players disliked the obtainable prizes during the event, deeming them to be bland and too similar to past Roblox items. Most players have deemed the event to be around the same quality as The Hunt, with most saying that it was a little bit better than The Hunt, though there were others like me who thought that it was on par or even worse than The Hunt.

Roblox Intervention

In the weeks leading up to the event, Roblox made teasers for the event and showed off small parts of the event and (obviously) got multiple developers to use their games in the event. After the event released though, not much else happened (at least from what I'm aware of) on Roblox's side, though they're likely "taking in" criticism for this event to prepare for their next event.

Final Rating

Before I declare my final rating of the event, I'd like to go over a few things that I didn't share earlier. Even though I hated the event a lot, some of the games had a small amount of enjoyable parts (such as where some of the Tix were located), though these were rare. Some games also had unbalanced difficulty, with some games being very unfriendly to players who've rarely or never played them before. To be a bit more positive though, in the hub for the event, there was a reference to a Roblox developer called Nimblz, who committed suicide in 2020, and the reference felt like a nice tribute to his legacy.

With all of my thoughts being described now, I deem The Classic as an event that has brought a negative impact on Roblox culture, and I'm giving it a final rating of 16%.
